imconfident

I sincerely believe that it is far more beneficial and far less costly to help a child build confidence than it is to fix an adult who has little or none.

You are beautiful!

teen leaning on handDo you think you are beautiful?  Sadly only a small percentage of girls and women feel that they are beautiful.   Stats show that about 90% of young women do not believe they measure up in how they look and want to change something about their appearance.  Even young men have issues with their body image and stats show that about 45% are unhappy with the way they look.

Why do so many young people feel this way?  It is mainly due to peer pressure that is influenced by the media.  It can also be the result of growing up in a an environment of criticism and ridicule or having a poor role model, such as a family member who is obsessive about their looks or weight.

We need to start realizing that we are all beautiful in our own way and stop comparing ourselves to other people.   Beauty is not just how we look on the outside, beauty is also how we look on the inside.   Some of us have beautiful eyes, hair or skin.  Others have beautiful personalities, character traits, skills, abilities and talents.  When our beauty starts on the inside, it reflects on the outside and this will show what an amazing and wonderful person that we are.

I watched a video this morning that was done by Rick Guidotti, a fashion photographer who spent fifteen years working in New York, Milan, Paris, and London for a variety of top profile fashion clients.  One day he was on a break from a photo shoot in New York and he spotted a stunning lady at a bus stop.  Her skin was pale and she had white hair, a girl with albinism.  He started to research people with genetic differences and saw horrible, dehumanizing pictures in books that upset him greatly.  He decided to stop working in the fashion industry and created a non-profit organization called Positive Exposure.

Rick’s photos are amazing.  You can see them on his website  www.positiveexposure.org.  The photos allow people to see their own beauty through their own eyes and not through the judging eyes of the world.

Watch his video.  It will redefine beauty for you http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=0019FCNU
