This is a quote by Norman Vincent Peale who developed a positive thinking philosophy that has helped many people around the world. Peale stated that when he was young he had “the worst inferiority complex of all“. It was his lack of confidence in himself that led him to develop his philosophy which has inspired many people around the world to develop positive thinking.
When I first read this quote, I thought it was very profound and I totally agreed with what it said. Changing your thoughts can definitely change things. My world has changed a lot since I started working on positive thinking. It has not only affected me but has had a positive influence on the people around me.
Yet when I read this quote again, I am getting another message. Peale was obviously referring to POSITIVE thoughts, but he didn’t mention anything about being positive in his statement. Perhaps there is a deeper and darker meaning that we should consider. What if we changed our thoughts to NEGATIVE thoughts – this could easily change the world in a NEGATIVE way.
What really counts is that we need to be very careful with our thoughts and also our words and actions. There is so much negativity in the world today, it is easy to let our minds wander into negative thinking which will result in negative words and actions. Every day we need to consciously be thinking positively so we can make positive changes in the world.
